‘Misaeng’ How Would They Draw A Reality In Workplaces?

How would the actors reflect themselves to the characters in ‘Misaeng’?

On October 6, there was a production presentation of new tvN drama ‘Misaeng’ at Conference Room in Coex, Seoul.

The drama ‘Misaeng’ is based on a web cartoon by cartoonist Yoon Tae Ho. It will reflect and highlight the lives and relationships of new employees.

Since the web cartoon was a big hit, making it into a drama was a hot issue. The director Kim Won Seok said “I really want to make people fascinated with my drama, even those who loved the web cartoon. That’s my goal for now. It is too early to make such an assumption. Please judge after the first episode airs” and revealed a strong confidence.

To the members of the cast, Kim Won Seok said “During the preparation of the drama, I discussed about it with the original author. What I thought and he thought were very different, so I tried not to get out of the author’s intention. That might be the reason why the casts and characters are similar.”

In the drama ‘Misaeng’, there are total of 8 characters. From the leading role Jang Gu Rae (Lim Si Wan), a new employee Ahn Young Ee (Kang So Ra), an elite newbie Jang Baek Ki (Kang Ha Neul) and other individual characters preannounced their remarkable activities in the drama.

Lim Si Wan, who plays an intern who only has a high school diploma, said “I have less acting experience than others, but I tried my best to show myself to reflect Jang Gu Rae.”

Kang So Ra, who acts as a new perfect bilingual employee Ahn Young Ee, said “For my role, I learned how to handle office software. I made my own things with Excel and Powerpoint.”

Kang Ha Neul, who loved the original cartoon, said “I bought glasses to be Jang Baek Ki. It’s pretty awkward to wear since I never had glasses, but I will try my best for the character.”

Since young actors reflect the new employees’ lives, a section chief Oh Sang Sik (Lee Sung Min) will fill the role for a typical businessman. Lee Sung Min said “The drama became a reflection point for me to look back on myself. The message from Oh Sang Sik would like to deliver is a strong conviction.”

Not only them, but Kim Dong Sik (Kim Dae Myung) and Han Seok Ryul (Byun Yo Han) also highlight the drama. First, Kim Dae Myung said “To keep my figure, I eat three meals a day and do my hair every day” and Byun Yo Han added “Keep your eyes on my unique hair and 2% lacking fashion sense” and appealed his character.

‘Misaeng’ has many different concepts. Sometimes, it feels like a humane story, but also has conflicts at the work place. It is more like a documentary.

Director Kim Won Seok said “Through ‘Misaeng’, I wanted to tell stories happening around us. But, it is a fact that the plot contains little bits of documentary elements. I tried my best to highlight sensual parts rather than intellectual ones.”

Meanwhile, ‘Misaeng’ airs on Fridays and Saturdays.
